The Turkish Arzu, student at a Dutch High School is chosen to play the role of Julia in a theatre play of 'Romeo and Juliet', which has been organized at school. She is extremely obsessed with the part, in which she recognizes herself. As it happens, her parents want to marry her off to a boy from Turkey who she has never seen before. With the rehearsals Arzu starts a nerve breaking double life. At home nobody knows anything about her on stage activities and when dad finally finds out he removes her from school and advances the marriage date of his daughter. In the end the school eldest succeed in convincing the parents to let Arzu play her part. The father watches the premier with mixed feelings en recognizes himself in the mirror that is held up to his face....

This sympathetic feature film, in which the role of Arzu Sülün / Julia was performed by Funda Müjde, was awarded a Golden squirrel for best feature film at the Dutch Film Days of 1987. In Chicago it received a Blue Ribbon. And in France it was awarded the main prize once more and Funda the prize for best female part.
